Li Device Short Story

It was another cold day up in the mountains. My friend Jack and I were hiking. My dad has a cabin up in the mountains and we are staying them for the week. I love it up here. It is silent and peaceful. It is a good trip when you are stressed and you just want to clear your mind. All you can hear up here is the snow falling from the sky. I wasn’t here because I was stressed and wanted peace, I was here to have fun with Jack. “Wanna take a break?” asked Jack. “Sure.” We sat down and drank our water. It felt good because I was a bit dehydrated from hiking for so long.
We were hiking to a huge cave where I go all the time. It is a lot of fun because nobody ever goes in there except my dad and I. I told Jack that I would take him there because he was interested. “So what is so special about the cave?” asked Jack. “It is very interesting and there is always more to explore when you go deeper. My dad used to tell me that there is something that lives in there and if it was disturbed by something else it would rise up and destroy the mountain. My dad would tell me he has seen it before and he remembers that the thing was as white as the snow and was sleeping. He was scared to explore more so he rushed out of the cave. I don’t believe him and he doesn’t know for sure if there was a hairy snow thing in the cave, but he knows that he saw something. “Wow, that would be amazing if we saw a snow things we could be famous for discovering a new species.” “If I saw something in the cave I would never go back.”

“I think we should get going, the earlier we get there the more time we have to explore.” “Alright,” said Jack. I had no service on my phone because we were high up, but towards the bottom of the mountain, I had a little and enough to call dad if there was a problem with the cabin. We were almost there, it was beautiful up here. If I could live here I would. “Is that the cave?” He was a little bit ahead of me, but when I got up to where he was I saw it. “Yeah, that's it.” I was as excited as a pirate finding treasure. “Let’s explore.” When we went in the cave it looked the same as usual. The ground was covered with snow and there were icicles bigger than school buses. I would always imagine how bad it would be if one of those fell on me, but I haven't ever seen one fall. “It’s amazing in here,” said Jack. “Watch Out!” Jack almost stepped on the iciest part of the cave. “I hurt myself really bad from slipping on that ice.” “What happened?” asked Jack. “I was ten years old and my dad and I were walking in the cave I started running because I wanted to glide on the ice. I slipped and fell on my face on the freezing ice. My nose was gushing blood so we ran back to the cabin. I couldn’t do anything for the rest of the time. We went to the doctor after the trip and I ended up having a broken nose. So watch your step on the ice.” “Wow I would hate if that happened to me,” said Jack. “Let’s keep going.” We were going deep into the cave and eventually, I didn’t recognize where we were. I turned the flashlight on because it was dark and cold. “Hey dude do you want to turn back it’s getting cold.” “No, we will never turn back not until I see that monster your dad saw.” “It was a story Jack there is no monster.” “No there is one I can feel it. If you want to go back you can, but I won’t stop until I see it.” “Jack you will die!” “Just go then, but I won’t let anyone get in my way.” Jack then took out his pocket knife. “I will kill you!” “Jack calm down.” Jack ran towards me with his knife. I ran the other way. I was scared for my life I ran and did not stop. I could see all the snow get deeper and the icicles get closer. I just can’t stop running I can't look back I gotta get out of here. I couldn't think straight. Just run, just run, just run. That's all I could think. And then I lost my balance. Next thing I knew I was in mid-air and then I landed on ice on the back of my head. I played there I couldn’t see straight so I just closed my eyes on the freezing ice. Next thing I knew it was black. I woke up. Where is I. My back is frozen, no it's not just my back, it’s everything? I remembered about Jack I was completely worn out, so I got up and walked out of the cave. It was pitch black outside. I must have been knocked out for hours because now it is late. I wonder if Jack calmed down and was back at the cabin. I started walking back to the cabin each step was harder because I couldn’t see if I was walking on ice or just deep snow. Then I heard it, it was the loudest noise ever and it was coming from the cave. It sounded like one of the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park, but louder, and I saw that in Imax. I wanted to go investigate so I walked back up and just to my feet right outside the cave it was Jack. He was bleeding all over and looked frozen. Who could have done this to him? What if there was a thing that lived in there that I didn’t know about. Maybe a monster. “Oh my god what is that!” I started running for my life not caring if the ground was pure ice or lava, I saw it. The thing was staring right at me it had white hair and yellow glowing eyes. Jack must have actually found him. I didn’t stop running down, I am surprised I haven't fallen down yet. There it is the cabin, I had to remember to slow down because the outside of the door is very icy. I ran in there. Jack is dead. I turned on the fire it was warm and cozy. I have to recap. “If the monster is awoken… the monster… kills… kills what! No, it destroys the mountain. I got to get out of here.” I ran outside, there it was. It was towering over me. It looked as tall as a skyscraper compared to me. It grabbed me. “Oh god, this is how it ends.” Then a miracle happened. The thing slipped on the ice and I was able to get away for one second. I knew this wasn’t a situation when I could run. I had to slide down the mountain. So I jumped down the and-and slide like a baseball player. I had to get to my car knowing that I will probably have a couple broken ribs and bones. The thing was back on its feet and I ran down. I didn’t know when the right time to slide is, but as I passed a big rock I slide. It happened so quick and next thing I knew I was at the bottom. My legs were killing. Fortunately, my head wasn’t hurting. I saw my car so I climbed in a started it up and drove. As I drove away I saw a glimpse of the monster, but a glimpse is all I needed. It’s huge nose and teeth made the beast look pretty ugly and fearful. I may forget how cold it was. I may forget how the beast looked. But I will never forget and feel the kind of fear I felt.
